The 2019 U16 FIBA Americas are set to tip off next month on June 3rd through June 9th in Belem, Brazil. The U16 USA national team training camp will begin starting next week May 22nd through May 29th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Finalists for the team are expected to be announced May 25th, and the 12-member team will be announced prior to departing for Brazil on May 30th according to USA Basketball.

There will be a total of 32 athletes from the 2021 and 2022 class. Some of the nations top ranked prospects will compete for a spot on the U16 national team. Top prospects like A.J Griffin Jr., Jarace Walker, Max Christie, Jaden Bradley, Nathan Bittle, Michael Foster, Dillon Hunter, Jabari Smith Jr., William Jeffress, Amari Bailey, Dariq Whitehead, Zion Cruz, and others are expected to attend.

Both the 2021 class and 2022 class are deep but the 2022 class is extremely deep in my opinion. A few top major prospects who are expected to attend from the 2022 class include center Jalen Duren, shooting guard Chris Livingston, forward Jarace Walker, guard Dariq Whitehead, point guard Jaden Bradley, shooting guard MJ Rice, point guard Dillon Hunter, forward Gregg Glenn, shooting guard Zion Cruz, combo guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, and others.

It will certainly be a battle for a roster spot next week in Florida. The coaches who will be in charge of that decision are the same coaches who are expected to coach and lead these young men to another gold medal. DeMatha (MD) head coach Mike Jones, St. Edwards (OH) head coach Eric Flannery, and Pace Academy (GA) head coach Sharman White headline the coaching staff for this year’s U16 FIBA Americas.
