The 2019-2020 high school season has officially begun and over the next few weeks we will have high school hoops in full swing once again. We previewd and ranked some of the nation’s top programs for this season and now we will take a look at which events we should be looking forward to for the 2019-2020 year. Some of events are certainly better than others and more deeper with top caliber programs. Below we will look at the top ten events, plus more, that we should be excited about for this season.
Top 10 Events
1. Spalding Hoophall Classic (Springfield, MA) Jan. 16-20th – The 2020 Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts will be this season’s number one high school event for the 2019-2020 year. With most of the nation’s top programs attendending New England next January, it is without question this will be the most exciting event we should look forward to. Top programs such as IMG Academy (FL), Prolific Prep (CA), Sierra Canyon (CA), Montverde Academy (FL), Hillcrest Prep (AZ), Oak Hill Academy (VA), Sunrise Christian (KS), DeMatha Catholic (MD), La Lumiere (IN), and more are expected to attend. The 5 day event will be exciting and the matchups are going to be even better for the 2020 showcase. The event will once again take place at Springfield College.
2. City of Palms Classic (Fort Myers, FL) Dec. 18th-23rd – The annual and famous City of Palms Classic in South Florida is always one of the nation’s top events during the season and arguably the number one high school basketball tournament in the country. The 2019 tournament is not one to miss this year and the full field is extrememly loaded. Some of the top teams in the nation headed to Fort Myers, Florida in December this season incldue Montverde Academy (FL), IMG Academy (FL), Roman Catholic (PA), Sunrise Christian (KS), McEachern (GA), Briarcrest Christian (TN), Gonzaga College HS (DC), O’Dea (WA), Hamilton Heights (TN), Archbishop Stepinac (NY), and more. The talent on display will be like no other and the 2019 City of Palms Classic is certainly the favorite for this high school season. The event will once again be played at Florida Southwestern State College.
3. Cancer Research Classic (Wheeling, WV) Jan. 3-4th – Every year the Cancer Research Classic plays host to some of the country’s best programs for a two-day event. Once again, Wheeling, West Virginia will host and games will be played at WesBanco Arena. Matchups for the 2020 event in January have already been announced via their website. Programs like DeMatha Catholic (MD), Mater Dei (CA), Wasatch Academy (UT), Roselle Catholic (NJ), Norcross (GA), Paul VI (VA), Sunrise Christian (KS), La Lumiere (IN), and others are expected to attend this season’s event. We rank the 2020 Cancer Research Classic as the third best event to look forward to this high school season.
4. Chic-Fil-A Classic (Columbia, SC) Dec. 19-23rd – The 2019 Chic-Fil-A Classic will feature at least eight nationally ranked programs this holiday season featuring top dogs such as La Lumiere (IN), Prolific Prep (CA), Hillcrest Prep (AZ), Greensboro Day (NC), Hunington Prep (WV), Legacy Early College (SC), and more. The before Christmas event should be one of the nation’s top tier tournaments for the 2019-2020 season. Top prospects like 2020 SG Jalen Green, 2020 SG Nimari Burnett, Duke bound 2020 F Jaemyn Brakefield, Purdue bound 2020 SG Jaden Ivey, Michigan bound 2020 F Isaiah Todd, NC State bound 2020 PG Cam Hayes, and others will be competing and displaying their talents. Richland Northeast High School will be the host of the 2019 field this season.
5. Thanksgiving Hoopfest (Duncanville, TX) Nov. 29-30th – The Thanksgiving Hoopfest will make it’s return and is expected to be one of the best showcases nationwide for the 2019-2020 high school season. This event will once again be played in Duncanville, Texas, just outside of Dallas. The top participating programs for this year’s event include the loaded Sierra Canyon (CA), loaded Montverde Academy (FL), Prolific Prep (CA), Duncanville (TX), Booker T. Washington (OK), Sunrise Christian (KS), and others. Texas native, Oklahoma State bound 2020 G Cade Cunningham, will make his return to his home state Texas with who should be the nation’s number team by then in Montverde Academy (FL). The event will be played at Sandra Meadows Arena in Texas.
6. Spalding HoopHall Classic West (Phoenix, AZ) Dec. 5-7th – The Spalding Hoophall Classic West in Phoenix, Arizona will be played at Chaparral High School in the local area. This event ranks at number seven and is certainly one of the top ten showcases we should look forward to for this upcoming high school season. Top tier programs like Hillcrest Prep (AZ), Hamilton Heights Academy (TN), Prolific Prep (CA), Rancho Christian (CA), Mater Dei (CA), Christ the King (NY), and others are expected. Hillcrest Prep (AZ) and Prolific Prep (CA) are expected to matchup on Thursday December 5th, 2019 and that game is expected to be nationally televised on ESPN2.
7. Tarkanian Classic (Las Vegas, NV) Dec. 17-21st – The Tarkanian Classic has always been a west coast showdown featuring some of the best programs on the west coast and the nation. This year’s tournament field will include Mayfair (CA), Mater Dei (CA), Bishop Gorman (NV), Sierra Canyon (CA), Oak Ridge (FL), John Marshall (VA), Coronado (NV), Centennial (CA), and more. The event will once again be played at Bishop Gorman High School in local Las Vegas, Nevada. Top prospects like 2020 SG Josh Christopher, Kentucky bound 2020 SG Brandon Boston Jr., 2020 W Zaire Williams, Kentucky bound 2021 PG Devin Askew, 2022 SG Amari Bailey, 2022 PG Dior Johnson, and more are expected.
8. Battle at the Rock (Rock Hill, SC) Dec. 12-14th – One of South Carolina’s biggest high school basketball tournaments will be back and even better this season. The Battle at the Rock Basketball Showcase will be in Rock Hill, South Carolina December 12-14th. This year’s event includes powerhouse Oak Hill Academy (VA), Compass Prep (AZ), Dream City Christian (AZ), Combine Academy (NC), Moravian Prep (NC), Dorman (SC), Cannon School (NC), Legacy Early College (SC), and more. The event will have a bunch of next level prospects on the floor for three full day of high school hoops. The showcase will be played at the Rock Hill Sports Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
9. D.C. ARS National Hoopfest (Washington D.C.) Dec. 6-8th – The ARS National Hoopfest in Washington D.C will be one of the biggest events early in the season as it is every season. DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland will play host once again to this season’s showcase event. A plethora of preseason top-25 programs are expected to headline the 2019 field this season. Programs like IMG Academy (FL), Paul VI (VA), DeMatha Catholic (MD), Sunrise Christian (KS), First Love Christian (PA), St. Frances Academy (MD), and more are expected to headline this year’s field. Top prospects like Tennessee bound 2020 SG Jaden Springer, Duke bound 2020 F Jalen Johnson, Duke bound 2020 PG Jeremy Roach, 2021 F Kendall Brown, Miami bound 2020 F Earl Timberlake Jr., Penn State bound 2020 SG DJ Gordon, and more are expected.
10. Beach Ball Classic (Myrtle Beach, SC) Dec. 26th-31st – One of the nation’s top post-Christmas tournaments, the Beach Ball Classic, will have a solid field for the 2019 tournament once again. The talent that will be displayed will be one of the best for sure. Programs like St. Francis (GA), Long Island Lutheran (NY), Coronado (NV), Dorman (SC), Baltimore Poly (MD), Butchel (OH), Morgan Park (IL), Whitney Young (IL), and others are expected to attend the event. Top ranked prospects like 2021 SG Jaden Hardy, 2022 SG Christ Livingston Jr., Duke bound 2020 PG DJ Steward, Illinois bound 2020 PG Andre Curbelo, Xavier bound 2020 PG Dwon Odom, Ohio State bound 2020 F Zed Key, and more will be attendance. The event will be played in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
