Updated National Rankings: Week 5

It was a very crazy week last week in the world of high school hoops. National big time tournaments like the City of Palms Classic, Chic-Fil-A Classic, and Tarkanian Classic all took place before the Christmas holiday and were loaded with premiere talent. There were top-25 matches all over the country and a few top-10 teams took loses while other unranked programs made names for themselves. This week’s rankings include a couple new faces in both the national top-25 and our “next five”, programs that have dropped out of our top-25, and a few major shifts. Below you can find out who made our top-25 national rankings for this week.

1. Montverde Academy (FL) (10-0) – The Eagles continued their undefeated season over the weekend and last week after winning the famous and loaded City of Palms Classic down in Fort Myers, FL. They defeated programs Sanford School (DE), Whitney Young (IL), McEachern (GA), and IMG Academy (FL) in the title game. Florida State commit 2020 F Scottie Barnes combined for 56 points, 40 rebounds, 19 assists, and only 3 turnovers in their four games. The Eagles will now head to the John Wall Invitational later this week in Raleigh, NC and where they can possibly meet nationally ranked The Patrick School (NJ) next Monday.

2. Sierra Canyton (CA) (11-0) – Sierra Canyon continues to roll through the 2019-2020 high school season and go 3-0 last week to improve to an 11-0 overall record. They defeated Florida programs Oak Ridge (FL) and Northeast (FL) as part of the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas and then made their way to Virginia where they defeated powerhouse John Marshall (VA), Kentucky commit 2020 SG Brandon Boston Jr. led with 31 points (11-14 FG and 4-7 from 3). The Trailblazers will be playing in the Damien Classic later this week and will face undefeated Ribet Academy (CA) in the first round.

3. Oak Hill Academy (VA) (21-1) – The Warriors have won 16 straight games since their early season lost to Combine Academy (NC) and just captured the Iolani Prep Classic title last week in Hawaii defeating top ranked Wasatch Academy (UT). Oak Hill has been dominate, led by LSU commit 2020 SG Cam Thomas. The Warriors will have the next two weeks off before facing Bishop Walsh (MD) as part of the Rock the Ribbon Classic on January 10th. Earned their spot in our top-5 rankings.

4. Prolific Prep (CA) (17-1) – Prolific Prep took their first lost of the season over the week to La Lumiere (IN) 63-59, and after being down big at halftime, as part of the loaded Chic-Fil-A Classic. Key injuries were a big part of the lost as 2020’s Texas Tech commit SG Nimari Burnett and Illinois commit F Coleman Hawkins were out most the weekend. 2020 SG Jalen Green averaged 28.0 PPG at the Chic-Fil-A Classic. Prolific Prep will be off for the Christmas holiday week and will be back in action next week.

5. The Patrick School (NJ) (3-0) – The Celtics began their season last week and have started off on the right foot with a 3-0 overall record. The nation’s top 2021 prospect, F Jon Kuminga, made his debut last night against Roselle Catholic (NJ) as part of the Kyrie Invitational and posting 20 points in the win. The Patrick School will head south to compete in the John Wall Invitational in Raleigh, NC later this week and where they can possibly meet Montverde Academy (FL) next Monday night.

6. Wasatch Academy (UT) (15-1) – Wasatch Academy took their first lost of the season to Oak Hill Academy (VA) in the Iolani Prep Classic title game last week in Hawaii. The Tigers are still without Michigan State commit 2020 F Mady Sissoko but they will have the rest of the week off and be back in action next week at the Cancer Research Classic in West Virginia.

7. Hamilton Heights (TN) (13-0) – The Hawks have proven they deserve to be in our top-10 national rankings as they go 2-0 over the week at the famous City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, FL defeating West Oaks Academy (FL) and then top-5 Sunrise Christian (KS). They have now defeated top-25 programs Hillcrest Prep (AZ) and Sunrise Christian (KS) in the same month. The Hawks will have this week off and will be back in action next week as they face Minnesota Prep (MN) as part of the Big Sotuh Shootout next Monday December 30th.

8. Sunrise Christian (KS) (10-1) – Sunrise Christian took their first lost of the season to Hamilton Heights (TN) 61-59 at the famous City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, FL. The Buffaloes will have this week off for the Christmas holiday and will be back in action next week as they are competing in the Cancer Research Classic in West Virginia.

9. Paul VI (VA) (7-0) – The Panthers won by 60 points in their lone game last week against The Heights (MD). They will now head to Delaware for a key matchup with Archbishop Stepinac (NY) as part of the Slam Dunk to the Beach event this weekend on Sunday December 29th.

10. IMG Academy (FL) (7-2) – IMG Academy recently lost in the City of Palms Classic title game to Montverde Academy (FL) 63-55. The Ascenders got quality wins over Archbishop Stepinac (NY) and Gonzaga (DC) in the same tournament last week. IMG will have the rest of the week off for the Christmas holiday and will be back in action next week as they are competing in the Memphis ARS Hoopfest in Memphis, TN.

11. Hillcrest Prep (AZ) (11-3) – The Bruins climb their way back up in our rankings by winning the loaded Chic-Fil-A Classic over the weekend where they defeated Westtown School (PA), Huntington Prep (WV), and La Lumiere (IN) to take the title. 2020 C Makur Maker has recently been added to an already loaded roster and the Bruins will now head to Raleigh, NC to compete in the John Wall Invitational.

12. La Lumiere (IN) (9-1) – The Lakers captured them a big win over the weekend against Prolific Prep (CA), giving them their first lost, in the loaded Chic-Fil-A Classic in Columbia, SC last weekend. La Lumiere will have the rest of the week off for the Christmas holiday and be back in action next week against Sunrise Christian (KS) and Roman Catholic (PA) as part of the Cancer Research Classic in West Virginia.

13. DeMatha Catholic (MD) (5-2) – DeMatha defeated Eleanor Roosevelt (MD) 80-59 last week in their lone game back on December 17th. The Stags were off for the rest of the week and weekend but will be back in action later this week as they are host to the DeMatha Christmas Classic. They will face Canterbury (FL) in the first round.

14. Roselle Catholic (NJ) (1-1) – The Lions began their season last week, defeating Trenton Catholic (NJ) in their debut but falling to The Patrick School (NJ) as part of the Kyrie Invitational in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclays Center. Xavier commit 2020 SG CJ Wilcher is averaging 20.0 PPG in their two games to begin the season. Roselle Catholic will head to Delaware this weekend where they will face First Love Christian (PA) and Sanford School (DE) as part of the Slam Dunk to the Beach event.

15. Long Island Lutheran (NY) (6-1) – Long Island Lutheran took their first lost of the season last week in Hawaii to nationally ranked Wasatch Academy (UT) as part of the Iolani Prep Classic. The Crusaders will head back home to New York for the Christmas holiday but will be back in action later this week as they are competing in the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC that features a bunch of solid programs.

16. Centennial (CA) (10-2) – The Centennial Huskies out of Corona, California is our newest program to enter our national top-25. The Huskies captured the Tarkanian Classic championship and defeated top national programs like Neumann-Goretti (PA), Mater Dei (CA), and Bishop Gorman (NV) in route to their title. Portland State commit 2020 G Paris Dawson averaged 21.5 PPG in their four games in Las Vegas, NV. Centennial will head to Arkansas later this week to compete in the King Cotton Classic.

17. Huntington Prep (WV) (11-4) – The Irish have battled injuries over the last couple of weeks but this squad is still a nationally ranked program. Huntington Prep took two loses over the weekend to nationally ranked Hillcrest Prep (AZ) and Prolific Prep (CA). They will be off for the rest of the week for the Christmas holiday and will be back in action next week as they face Bristol Prep (TN) on Monday December 30th.

18. Bishop Gorman (NV) (7-1) – Bishop Gorman fell short in the Tarkanian Classic championship game to now nationally ranked Centennial (CA) last weekend, which was their first lost of the season. The Gaels will have a couple days off and will be in Oregon later this week as they are competing in the Les Schwab Invitational.

19. St. Frances Academy (MD) (12-1) – The Panthers lost their first game of the high school season in the famous City of Palms Classic to Sunrise Christian (KS) but bounced back with a win over West Oaks Academy (FL). St. Frances will host their own Holiday Invitational later this week in Baltimore, Maryland and will face Randallstown (MD) in the first round.

20. Sheldon (CA) (8-1) – The Sheldon Huskies out of Sacramento, California also make their first appearance in our national top-25 after a couple quality wins throughout the season, including over nationally ranked Mater Dei (CA) in the Tarkanian Classic last week. Arizona commit 2020 G/F Marcus Bagley, younger brother of Marvin Bagley III, has been eye opening so far during his senior campaign. The Huskies will head to San Diego, CA later this week to compete in the Torrey Pines Basketball Tournament.

21. Mater Dei (CA) (8-2) – The Monarchs have lost back-to-back games in the Tarkanian Classic last week in Las Vegas, NV. Mater Dei is still placed in our national top-25 as those two loses came to now nationally ranked Sheldon (CA) and Centennial (CA). Mater Dei will play again later this week in the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon, a possible matchup with nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (NV) awaits.

22. Scotlandville (LA) (11-2) – The most impressive national program last week was without a doubt the Scotlandville Hornets out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Hornets make their first appearance in our national top-25 after going 3-1 at the famous City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, FL. With Virginia commit 2020 PG Reece Beekman out for two games, sleeper prospect 2020 G Tai’Reon Joseph was big time averaging 19.5 PPG in all four games. The Hornets defeated national programs like Vashon (MO), Whitney Young (IL), and Archbishop Stepinac (NY) while only losing by 2 points to McEachern (GA) last week.

23. Rancho Christian (CA) (11-2) – The Eagles captured the Capital City Classic title in Oregon last week and over the weekend to improve to an 11-2 overall record on the season. Rancho Christian will be playing in the Damien Classic later this week in California after the Christmas holiday and where they face undefeated Dublin (CA) in the first round, a matchup to keep our eye on.

24. Neumann-Goretti (PA) (7-1) – The Saints lost their first game of the season last week in Las Vegas, NV to now nationally ranked Centennial (CA) by four points as part of the Tarkanian Classic. Neumann-Goretti will have a couple days off before getting back to work later this week after the Christmas holiday. The Saints will have a key matchup against Legacy Early College (SC) later this week as part of the Governor’s Cup in Maryland.

25. Archbishop Stepinac (NY) (5-2) – Archbishop Stepinac took their first two loses last week at the famous City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, FL to powerhouse IMG Academy (FL) and now nationally ranked Scotlandville (LA). North Carolina commit 2020 PG R.J. Davis averaged 25.0 PPG in their four games in Fort Myers and made the all tournament first team. The Crusaders will be back in action this weekend and will face Paul VI (VA) as part of the Slam Dunk to the Beach in Delaware.

Next 5:

Grayson (GA) (11-1) – The Grayson Rams are still at the top of the list in our “next five” and will have a key matchup this weekend in Atlanta as they are facing undefeated Lithonia (GA) as part of the TOC Classic at Wheeler High School. The Rams defeated Brookwood (GA) 73-34 in their lone game last Saturday.

Gonzaga (DC) (9-3) – The Eagles go 2-1 in Fort Myers, FL last week defeating O’Dea (WA) and McEachern (GA) as part of the famous City of Palms Classic. Available 2020 G/F Terrance Williams averaged 20.3 PPG and 12.6 RPG in their three games in Southwest Florida. Gonzaga will have the rest of the week off for the Christmas holiday and will be back in action next week.

Harvard-Westlake (CA) (12-0) – Harvard-Westlake is a sleeper program that has caught our attention this high school season and have been added to our “next five”. The Wolverines have one quality win on their belt so far and that is against nationally ranked Centennial (CA). They will have a chance to build their resume as they are competing in the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC later this week after the Christmas holiday.

Dorman (SC) (8-1) – The Dorman Cavaliers won the American Division of the loaded Chic-Fil-A Classic after beating powerhouse Greensboro Day (NC) in the title game. Dorman will have a chance to continue to add to their resume of quality wins this weekend after the Christmas holiday as they are competing in the loaded Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC.

McEachern (GA) (9-3) – The Indians drop back out of the national rankings this week after only going 2-2 at the famous City of Palms Classic and losing to unranked Gonzaga (DC). Auburn commit 2020 PG Sharife Cooper averaged 23.7 PPG and making the all tournament second team. The Indians will be back in action after the Christmas holiday as they are facing John Marshall (VA) in Atlanta as part of the TOC Classic at Wheeler High School.
