The 2020-2021 high school season is approaching much quicker than we think and a few national tournaments, showcases, and events have already sorted out their field of teams that are expected to attend. Top tier events like the Chic-Fil-A Classic, City of Palms Classic, Spalding Hoophall Classic, and others have somewhat finalized their field for their event during the 2020-2021 high school season. Below, from what we know up to this point, we take a look at which top tier national events we should look forward to for the upcoming high school season.
Spalding Hoophall Classic (Springfield, MA) – Year after year, the Spalding Hoophall Classic has always been one of the top tier events to look forward to during the high school season and the 2021 field should have national media and basketball fans extremely excited. The dates for next year’s event will take place on January 14-18th in Springfield, Massachusetts at Springfield College. A few matchups have already been set in place for the 2021 Spalding Hoophall Classic and programs such as Sierra Canyon (CA), Oak Hill Academy (VA), Montverde Academy (FL), Camden (NJ), Paul VI (VA), San Ysidro (CA), Archbishop Stepinac (NY), IMG Academy (FL), St. Mark’s (TX), Coronado (NV), Rutgers Prep (NJ), Hamilton (WI), DeMatha Catholic (MD), and others are expected to participate. A few matchups include Oak Hill Academy (VA) verse Montverde Academy (FL), Sierra Canyon (CA) verse Camden (NJ), and Coronado (NV) verse Hamilton (WI), Archbishop Stepinac (NY) verse Sierra Canyon (CA), and San Ysidro (CA) verse Springfield Central (MA).
Chic-Fil-A Classic (Columbia, SC) – The Chic-Fil-A Classic is another exciting event that most national media and fans look forward to consistently year after year and the 2020 tournament will be played December 19th-23rd in Columbia, South Carolina. The field of teams expected to attend the event in December inlcude Oak Hill Academy (VA), Wasatch Academy (UT), Prolific Prep (CA), Crestwood Prep (CAN), Pace Academy (GA), Legacy Early College (SC), Dream City Christian (AZ), Hillcrest Prep (AZ), and others. The event will obviously be loaded with talent and will feature big names such as 2022 PG Dior Johnson, 2021 F Mike Foster Jr., 2021 F Matthew Cleveland, 2023 SG Elijah Fisher, Florida State commit 2021 SG Bryce McGowens, Maryland commit 2021 F Ike Cornish, 2022 PG Richard Isaacs Jr., 2021 F Arthur Kaluma, 2022 G Zion Cruz, and others. The Chic-Fil-A Classic is one of the premiere national events and will feature big time matchups nationally. Matchups will be announced later this fall.
Beach Ball Classic (Myrtle Beach, SC) – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is always a great way to spend the Christmas Holiday season and why not watch some big time high school basketball while your at it? The 2020 Beach Ball Classic is expected to be loaded this December, December 26th-31st to be exact. Last season’s event was loaded with top tier programs and talent and the 2020 Beach Ball Classic could possibly be even better. Programs like Milton (GA), Whitney Young (IL), Coronado (NV), Archbishop Moeller (OH), Bishop Gorman (NV), Bishop O’Dowd (CA), John Marshall (VA), The Patrick School (NJ), and others are expected to round out the field of teams. A few of the nation’s best players will be on display and prospects like 2022 PG Bruce Thornton, 2023 F Jalen Lewis, 2021 SG Jaden Hardy, 2021 C Roosevelt Wheeler, 2021 PG Zaon Collins, UCLA commit 2021 SG Will McClendon, 2021 PG Frankie Collins, and others are expected to hit the floor during next season’s event.
Hoophall West (Phoenix, AZ) – The Hoophall West is just the West Coast version of the Spalding Hoophall Classic or Hoophall East, as some people like to call it. The 2020 Hoophall West will be December 10-12th in Phoenix, Arizona. The Hoophall West sits right up there at the top as one of the best national events we should look forward to every season. This year’s event might be the best one yet as it features programs like O’Dea (WA), Coronado (NV), Oak Hill Academy (VA), San Ysdiro (CA), DeMatha Catholic (MD), Garfield (WA), Pace Academy (GA), Bishop Gorman (NV), Bishop O’Dowd (CA), and plenty more. Pace Academy (GA) verse DeMatha Catholic (MD), Bishop O’Dowd (CA) verse DeMatha Catholic (MD), and O’Dea (WA) verse Coronado (NV) are just a couple key matchups that are expected for event. The major matchup between future McDonald All Americans 2021 F Paolo Banchero of O’Dea (WA) and 2021 SG Jaden Hardy of Coronado (NV) will be the most anticipated matchup of the event.
City of Palms Classic (Fort Myers, FL) – How can anyone forget about the the famous and annual City of Palms Classic? The 2020 City of Palms Classic will be held December 18th-23rd in Fort Myers, Florida at the lovely Suncoast Credit Union Arena, home of the Florida Southwestern State College Bucs. The City of Palms Classic, for decades, has always been one of the toughest tournaments in the country and will feature some raw talent this December. Montverde Academy (FL), last year’s champions, IMG Academy (FL), St. Vincent-St. Mary’s (OH), Fenwick (IL), Sandy Creek (GA), Milton (GA), Compass Prep (AZ), St. John’s College (DC), Northeast (FL), Kell (GA), Charlotte (FL), and others have been listed as participates for next season’s event. Top prospects like 2021 F Jabari Smith Jr., 2022 C Jalen Duren, 2022 PG Jaden Bradley, Louisville commit 2021 SG Bryce Hopkins, 2022 F Caleb Houstan, 2021 SG Malaki Branham, 2021 G Ty Ty Washington, 2022 F Jarace Walker, 2023 forwards Matt and Ryan Brewley, 2022 PG Scoota Henderson, and others will be hitting the floor in next season’s City of Palms Classic. The 16-team tournament bracket for the 2020 City of Palms Classic has yet to be announced.
Thanksgiving Hoopfest (Dallas, TX) – This Thanksgiving should be spent in the state of Texas and in the city of Dallas. The Dallas Thanksgiving Hoopfest is one of the premiere Thanksgiving events we have to look forward to nationally and with last season’s event being one of the greatest ever, this season should bring another nice field. The 2020 event will once again be the following two days after Thanksgiving, November 27-28th, at Duncanville High School. Teams expeceted to compete in the 2020 event include programs like San Ysidro (CA), Coronado (NV), Wagner (TX), Richardson (TX), St. Mark’s (TX), Oak Ridge (FL), Duncanville (TX), iSchool of Lewisville (TX), and others. The event will also feature some of the country’s top prospects including 2023 SG Mikey Williams, 2022 PG Bryce Griggs, 2021 SG Harrison Ingram, 2022 F Collin Smith, 2021 SG Jaden Hardy, 2021 F Michael James, 2023 F Ron Holland, 2022 SG Keyonte George, 2023 C Cameron Barnes, 2022 PG Austin Nunez, 2022 G Rylan Griffin, 2022 G Cason Wallace, and more. Matchups for the 2020 Dallas Thanksgiving Hoopfest will be announced later this fall.
Kevin Durant Hoopfest (Memphis, TN) – The ARS National Hoopfest has now become the Kevin Durant Hoopfest and will have multiple showcase events next season around the country, making stops in cities like Seattle, Dallas, Memphis, Washington D.C., and Tampa Bay. The most loaded event, as of right now, will be held in Memphis, Tennessee on January 8-9th and the field is expected to be stacked with top programs and prospects. The KD Hoopfest in Memphis will feature programs like Montverde Academy (FL), Oak Hill Academy (VA), Wasatch Academy (UT), Huntington Prep (WV), Cane Ridge (TN), Sunrise Christian (KS), Woodale (TN), and others. As expected, the event will feature key prospects like 2022 C Jalen Duren, 2021 PG Kennedy Chandler, 2021 F Kendall Brown, 2021 SG Shane Dezonie, 2022 PG Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2022 SG Dariq Whitehead, 2022 F Brandon Miller, 2022 SG M.J. Bass Pro Shops T of C (Springfield, MO) – The Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions 2021 field will be very competitive next season and will feature at least four programs that are expected to begin the 2020-2021 season in the top-30 nationally. The field includes IMG Academy (FL), Pace Academy (GA), Bishop Gorman (NV), Sunrise Christian (KS), Roman Catholic (PA), DeSemet Jesuit (MO), Greenwood Laboratory (MO), and Kickapoo (MO). The 2021 Bass Pro Shop T of C will be played January 14-16th in Sprinfield, Missouri at JQH Arena home of the Missour State Bears. Top prospects expected to hit the floor for next season’s event include 2022 F Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, 2021 PG Zaon Collins, 2021 F Matthew Cleveland, 2021 PG Kennedy Chandler, Kansas commit 2021 F Zach Clemence, UCLA commit 2021 SG Will McClendon, 2021 SG Aminu Mohammad, 2022 SG Eric Dailey Jr., 2022 PG Jaden Bradley, 2021 C Sekou Gassama, and others. Metro Classic (Toms River, NJ) – The Metro Classic has been one of the top national tournaments to look forward to every season over the last few years or so. The 2021 field was released just a few days ago and fans, alongside national media, should be eager for the 2021 event. The Metro Classic is expected to be February 5-7th in Toms River, New Jersey at the RWJBarnabas Health Arena. Teams like Long Island Lutheran (NY), Rutgers Prep (NJ), Blair Academy (NJ), Montverde Academy (FL), Prolific Prep (CA), Camden (NJ), Gill St. Bernard’s (NJ), The Patrick School (NJ), Don Bosco Prep (NJ), and others are expected to complete the 2021 field.
