It is about time to move on from the 2022 class in the world of high school hoops as their new journey’s begin heading to college. All the showcase all star games are final over and here we take a look at a breakdown on which prospects in the 2022 class could be potential one-and-done prospects next season. Now, everyone on this list might not be a one-and-done prospect and head to the NBA right away. Some prospects certainly need more development than others and some will adjust to the college game faster than others. NBA scouts and personnel have already had their eyes on a few guys here in the 2022 class and below we will take a look at some of those names.

G Nick Smith Jr. (Arkansas) – Nick Smith Jr. is a prospect NBA scouts have been noticing since last summer during his time in North Augusta helping Brad Beal Elite (MO) reach the Nike Peach Jam title game. Smith Jr. has the NBA skill level and has an amazing feel for the game. He is a 6-foot-3 wiry playmaking guard who has the versatility to run both the point guard spot and off-ball at the two. He is an electric scoring guard with such a high level competitiveness, makes nice reads with the ball in his hands, able to knockdown his jumpers, and will be able to stuff the stat sheet at times filling every category. Eric Musselman should let the Arkansas native run the show during his time in Fayetteville as Nick Smith Jr. is one of the main reasons the Razorbacks will be at the top in college basketball next season. NBA scouts are going to get a real nice look at Nick Smith Jr. throughout the year.

F Dillon Mitchell (Texas) – Dillon Mitchell has been on NBA scouts radar since the summer after his junior season. After spending his senior season at powerhouse Montverde Academy (FL), Mitchell’s body has transformed into a next level college ready frame. He is a 6-foot-7 forward with freak athleticism, able to play bigger than his size, a versatile switch defender, and holds an elite timing on blocking shots. Chris Beard already has high hopes for his incoming freshman and McDonald’s All American, as we all are. Mitchell excels in transition, an explosive finisher, and just so quick off the floor with his leaping ability. He moves very well without the ball and will for certainly have to prove he can be a solid three point shot maker. Mitchell is super effective outside his overall shooting and should be a potential one-and-done coming out of his freshmen season in Austin.

F Kyle Filipowski (Duke) – Kyle Filipowski blew up last spring during his last season in grassroots basketball running with the New York Rens EYBL out of New York. The 6-foot-10 forward has NBA potential written all over him as long as he stays the course and continues to develop in all areas. Filipowski will be headed to Duke next season and is apart of that No. 1 recruiting class new head coach Jon Sheyer has put together. He is a very talented prospects NBA general managers, scouts, and personnel should keep tabs on throughout the next college basketball season. He holds massive college ready strength, an extremely versatile forward, can score from all levels of the floor, rebound at a high rate, block shots, and handle that ball like a guard at times. Kyle fits the modern NBA stretch-four or three-man position and has that versatility that helps space the floor. He should have an immediate impact to begin his career in Durham next fall, winter.

SG Keyonte George (Baylor) – One of the top scorers in this 2022 class, if not the best scorer, should be an immediate impact once he steps foot on Baylor’s campus. Keyonte George is a very talented basketball player. He is a 6-foot-4 guard who has much more in his game than just his scoring skillset. George is an all level scorer who can consistently get to the free throw line adding to his points. He is an underrated playmaker, will be one of the first guys diving on the floor for a loose ball, a competitive defender, and outstanding rebounder for a guard. NBA scouts will fall in love with Keyonte and notice his feel for the game quick. He will fit right in with Scott Drew and Baylor’s system. Keyonte has said countless of times that he committed to Baylor because they develop their guards.

C Derek Lively II (Duke) – Mark Williams has departed for the 2022 NBA Draft and will most likely be a first-round pick after an incredible year at Duke helping lead them to the Final Four. With Williams now out of the lineup, the Blue Devils will need a replacement at center and that replacement will be Derek Lively II. The 7-foot-1 big man will fill in the shoes of Mark Williams and an incoming freshman who is also projected to be a first round pick himself. NBA scouts have already had their eyes on Lively II for the last few months and will continue to keep tabs on him throughout his freshman season in Durham. He is an elite rim protector with an elite level wingspan, terrific floor run, power finisher, athletic, ability to catch lob passes, and shows some flashes of his versatility by hitting perimeter jumpers. Now over the next few months, Derek will be hitting the weights and without a doubt add some more strength to his slim frame.

F Ty Rodgers (Illinois) – Ty Rodgers will be an interesting prospects that I believe NBA scouts will notice over his time in Champaign under head coach Brad Underwood at Illinois. Rodgers is a 6-foot-7 wing with incredible defensive instincts and college ready body. The incoming freshman really caught eyes during the Nike EYBL Peach Jam last summer helping Meanstreets (IL) reach the semifinals. He holds an elite wingspan, very athletic, plays with such a high motor, a capable shot maker on the perimeter, and will be an asset on the boards. Ty definitely has a high IQ for the game and could be a two-way impactful prospect at the next level. NBA personnel should be interested in what they see next season in the Big Ten from Ty Rodgers.

G Cason Wallace (Kentucky) – John Calipari is going to absolutely love the toughness Cason Wallace brings to Lexington next season and NBA personnel should also. Wallace, a 6-foot-4 guard out of the Dallas, Texas area, has developed into one of the premiere high school prospects in the country over the last year or so. He should fill in the shoes of Ty Ty Washington, who has declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. Outside of his elite toughness, Cason will be a consistent shot maker for Kentucky, will have the ability to finish through traffic, rebound, and will be able to guard the opposing teams best player as he is an elite on-ball defender. NBA scouts will notice Cason’s full potential and the Texas native could see himself on NBA mock draft boards for the 2023 draft.

F Brandon Miller (Alabama) – Alabama head coach Nate Oats and staff have consistently been able to secure some of the top high school prospects in the country since his tenure and it certainly does not stop with this freshmen class he is expected to have coming into next season. Brandon Miller is apart of that terrific class and has a unique skill set that NBA personnel should keep notes on over the next several months. Miller sits at 6-foot-8 with length and has that modern NBA versatility that NBA scouts and general managers should notice next college basketball season. He is a productive forward that will be able to score the ball on all levels, block shots on the defensive end, rebound at a high rate, and is an underrated passer for a prospect his size. Brandon should see himself playing a high quality of minutes as freshman early for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

G Anthony Black (Arkansas) – One of the most special prospects we have in the 2022 class, Anthony Black will look to keep the Arkansas basketball alive along side his fellow classmate Nick Smith Jr. Black, a 6-foot-7 guard out of the Dallas, Texas area, has improved his stock tremendously at least over the last year or so. His ability to score the ball in a variety of ways should open the eyes of the NBA scouts that will be court side at multiple Arkansas games. Anthony holds a high versatility, will compete on the defense end of the floor consistently, excels in transition, has the athleticisim, and moves well without the ball scoring off cuts. He has the ability to make plays out of the wing position and could bring the ball up in some situations at the next level.

F Chris Livingston (Kentucky) – The Akron native, Chris Livingston, has actually been on the radar of NBA scouts for a few years now. His upside and development have started to show and Livingston should be a key scoring threat for John Calipari next season during his time in Lexington. He is a 6-foot-7 forward with a strong college ready body coming into his freshman season. Chris is an explosive athlete who can score at will and whenever he wants. He is a physical driver, holds long arms, able to create his own offense, is an asset on the glass, and an underrated passer also. He definitely has the ability to make plays with the ball and should prove to the NBA scouts that he is worth a chance on draft night.

G Amari Bailey (UCLA) – Amari Bailey has been a highly ranked prospect throughout his entire high school career with Sierra Canyon High School in California. The Chicago native chose UCLA over others and will fit right in with the Bruins and Mick Cronin’s system. Bailey is a 6-foot-5 guard with gifted athletic ability. He is an elite competitor, a gritty defender, holds excellent body control when attacking the rim, great strength, and explosiveness. Amari has the versatility to create scoring opportunities for others and although he still has work to do on his shooting, he has other skill sets that NBA scouts already admire about him. If he is able to stay consistent and prove he can hit perimeter jumpers then he should be able to make his way into the next level.
