One of the nation’s top wing defenders, Scotty Middleton, took the time out to talk with me regarding his recruitment and more.
Middleton is a 6-foot-8 wing from South Florida, transferred to powerhouse Sunrise Christian (KS) after his sophomore year at The Patrick School (NJ).
I asked him how was his experience during his first season with the Buffaloes. “My first year here at Sunrise was amazing. I really developed in all aspects this season. My shooting, dribbling, defense, leadership, and I felt like overall I just became better as a person.” He said.
Sunrise Christian was ranked No. 1 in the country for most of the season, according to The High School Circuit. “You know even though we didn’t accomplish the end goal in winning a national championship, we did some really special things this past season.” Scotty replied.
He recently cut his list down to six schools regarding his recruitment. Connecticut, Kansas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Seton Hall, and Michigan State has just entered in the mix.
I asked Middleton how has his recruitment been going for him since he recently cut his list down to six. He says “It’s been going good, very blessed to be in this situation so just enjoying the process. Just trying to figure where the best place is for me.”
He told me he has already taken visits to schools like Ohio State and Kansas State. “I plan on taking some more visits, haven’t scheduled any yet.” Scotty says.
Which ever program Scotty chooses, that so called program will be receiving a lengthy wing with high defensive instincts, a prospect that is capable of hitting three’s, with a high motor, good in transition, and athletic finisher at the rim.
I asked, what do you need to improve on coming into your senior season? “To be honest, really everything you know? Shooting off the dribble, making ball screen reads, my ball handling, catch and shoot threes etc.”
