Way-Too-Early 2023-2024 Top-25 Rankings

April is upon us, which means the grassroots season is just getting underway as the high school season closes. The 2022-2023 high school season was fun and exciting and eyes are already set for the 2023-2024 high school season. These way-too-early national top-25 rankings are based off of what teams could potentially be returning for next season. Note, things can change from now until the beginning of the season, which would be in October.

1. Link Academy (MO)
Last Season Record: 27-1
Link Academy is a combined 61-3 in their first two seasons with a high school national program. The Lions have won their first GEICO Nationals title this past weekend and finished the season 27-1 overall. Head coach Bill Armstrong had an incredible year one and the Lions have emerged as the No. 1 preseason ranked team for now to start the 2023-2024 high school season. 2025 Aaron Rowe, 2025 B.J. Davis, 2024 R’Chaun King, and 2024 Tyler McKinley headline the possible returnees. Link Academy has already added 2024 James Brown (UNC) to the roster as well. 2024 Elliot Cadeau (UNC) could possibly reclassify.

2. AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Last Season Record: 24-6
AZ Compass Prep has proven a lot over the last five years and especially after making another GEICO Nationals appearance. The Dragons finished 24-6 overall in their first season as member of the loaded NIBC and making it to their first appearance in the GEICO Nationals title game. Prospects like 2024 V.J. Miller, 2024 Marcus Allen, 2024 Terrence Hill Jr., 2024 Pharaoh Compton, and 2024 Jamari Phillips (Arizona) are the possible returnees. The Dragons will for sure reload this offseason and sit at No. 2 overall in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

3. Montverde Academy (FL)
Last Season Record: 23-3
For the first time since the 2018-2019 season ended, the Montverde Academy Eagles were not crowned national champions after GEICO. Kevin Boyle and staff will obviously reload this off-season, but they will have some key returnees expected to be back in Central Florida. 2025 Cooper Flagg, 2024 Curtis Givens, 2024 Liam McNeeley, 2024 Asa Newell, 2024 Derik Queen, and 2025 Bryce Heard headline the potential roster for the 2023-2024 high school season. 2024 Robert Wright III (Baylor) has been the most recent additions for Kevin Boyle.

4. Paul VI (VA)
Last Season Record: 31-4
Head coach Glenn Farello had one of his better teams this past season since he has been the head man at powerhouse Paul VI. The Panthers finished with a 31-4 overall record, crowned once again the VISAA state champions, runner-up in the loaded WCAC, and GEICO Nationals appearance. They are expected to return just about everyone from this past season headlined with 2024 Darren Harris (Duke), 2024 Isaiah Abraham, 2024 Ben Hammond, 2024 Garrett Sundra, and 2024 Patrick Ngongba. Paul VI are definitely the favorites to win the WCAC come next season.

5. Long Island Lutheran (NY)
Last Season Record: 23-3
Long Island Lutheran made their NIBC debut this past season and what a season it was for the Crusaders. Head coach John Buck and staff have built an incredible powerhouse program out of New York and should be back once again as one of the best teams in the country. Prospects like 2024 V.J. Edgecombe, 2024 Godswill Erheriene, 2025 Jacob Ross, and 2026 Dylan Mingo should headline the key returnees for Long Island Lutheran next season, who sit at No. 5 in the way-too-early top-25 rankings. Long Island Lutheran rounds out the top-5 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

6. IMG Academy (FL)
Last Season Record: 20-8

Head coach Sean McAloon does not get enough credit on how well of a coach he is. IMG Academy has been one of the best programs in the country over the last few years, which includes a GEICO Nationals title back in 2019. The Ascenders had a solid season once again finishing 20-8 overall before being eliminated in the second round of the 2023 GEICO Nationals. 2024 Khani Rooths, 2025 Jamier Jones, 2025 Amari Allen, and 2024 Amier Ali should be the expected returnees for IMG Academy as of now.

7. Prolific Prep (CA)
Last Season Record: 35-2
Prolific Prep has consistently been one of the most dominant powerhouse programs in the country over the last few seasons. Head coach Ryan Bernadi is coming off an outstanding first season with the West Coast program, finishing 35-2 overall, capturing the Grind Session World Championships, and making another appearance in the GEICO Nationals. 2024 Yves Missi (Baylor), 2024 Zion Sensley, and 2026 Tyron Stokes should be the main guys returning to Prolific Prep.

8. Columbus (FL)
Last Season Record: 30-4
Columbus High School is going to be around at least for another two seasons as long as the Boozer twins are still apart of the program. Columbus is a combined 60-6 overall since the start of the 2021-2022 high school season, which include back-to-back FHSAA 7A titles and a Throne National Championships title. The Explorers return all five starters from this past season which is headlined with 2025 Cameron Boozer and 2025 Cayden Boozer. They currently sit at No. 8 in the way-too-early national top-25 rankings.

9. Bishop Gorman (NV)
Last Season Record: 22-7
Bishop Gorman finished the 2022-2023 high school season with a 22-7 overall record. The Gaels started off the season ranked in the top-25 nationally but ended up finishing in the top-30. Head coach Grant Rice and staff should be excited about their expected squad coming into next season as they sit at No. 9 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings. Key returnees like 2024 Jase Richardson, 2024 John Mobley Jr. (Ohio State), and 2025 Chris Nwuil headline their roster for next season.

10. Gonzaga HS College (DC)
Last Season Record: 26-11
Playing in the loaded WCAC year after year cannot be easy for anyone, but head coach Steve Turner and his staff consistently has Gonzaga competing at a high level and always in the mix when talking about some of the top programs in the country. The Eagles should be bringing back a loaded roster headline by 2025 Nyk Lewis, 2025 William Harper, and 2025 Derek Dixon. Gonzaga has one of the better young talented groups coming into the 2023-2024 high school season.

11. St. John’s College (DC)
Last Season Record: 32-4
What a season for head coach Patrick Behan and his staff during 2022-2023. The Cadets began this past season unranked and finished in the top-25 nationally. They secured the WCAC title and had some major quality wins during the regular season. St. John’s should be back as one of the better teams in the country and have themselves a chance to repeat as back-to-back WCAC champions. 2024 Daquan Davis and 2024 Donnie Freeman should headline their roster for 2023-2024.

12. Faith Family (TX)
Last Season Record: 32-4

Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy has kind of flown under the radar when it comes to the national level, but that should change. The Eagles have captured the UIL 4A state title in back-to-back seasons and could see themselves as champions again once the 2023-2024 season is over. Faith Family finished the 2022-2023 season with a 32-4 overall record while playing a national schedule. They should be back in the mix once again as a top-25 preseason team as they sit at No. 12 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

13. McEachern (GA)
Last Season Record: 23-7

Georgia’s number one team at this point coming into the 2023-2024 high school season should be the McEachern Indians. The Indians had one of their best seasons since 2020 and finished 23-7 overall last season while playing a national schedule. 2024 Ace Bailey (Rutgers), 2024 Moses Hipps, and 2025 J.D. Palm should headline McEachern’s roster coming into 2023-2024. The Indians are No. 13 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings and should be in multiple national events next season.

14. Wasatch Academy (UT)
Last Season Record: 15-10

Wasatch Academy is in the mix for one of the top programs in the country coming into the 2023-2024 high school season. The Tigers finished 15-10 last season while playing in the loaded NIBC. Wasatch Academy should be one of the better teams next season as always. They are expected to bring back key returnees 2024 Jeremiah Johnson, 2025 Isaiah Harwell, and 2024 Malick Diallo. The Tigers are at No. 14 in the way-to-early top-25 national rankings.

15. Cardinal Hayes (NY)
Last Season Record: 19-10

Cardinal Hayes had a some showings in a few national events this past season en route to finishing 19-10 overall. The Cardinals made an appearance in the CHSAA “AA” city title game this past season and should also be apart of some national events once again during the 2023-2024 high school season. 2024 Ian Jackson (UNC), 2024 Elijah Moore (Syracuse), 2024 Adam Nije, and 2024 Steven Solano should headline the Cardinals roster for next season.

16. The Rock School (FL)
Last Season Record: 23-12
One of the most underrated programs in the state of Florida, The Rock School appeared in a couple major national events during the 2022-2023 season. The Lions finished 23-12 this past season and will return just about everyone from that roster. Their roster should be headlined by expected returnees 2024 Ryan Jones Jr., 2024 Kameron Wright, and 2024 Sammie Yeanay. The Rock School sits at No. 16 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

17. Combine Academy (NC)
Last Season Record: 35-5

Mike Wright had an incredible first season coaching at Combine Academy, an upcoming powerhouse in North Carolina. The Goats finished 35-5 overall while playing a national schedule and were crowned as The HoopState Champions. Combine Academy should be back in conversation as one of the nation’s top teams for 2023-2024. They will have to rebuild, as they have already started, but 2024 Rakease Passmore should headline the Goat’s roster.

18. Sunrise Christian (KS)
Last Season Record: 22-8

Sunrise Christian goes 22-8 to finish their 2022-2023 high school season after another successful year under the NIBC. The Buffaloes made it to the second round of the 2023 GEICO Nationals before being eliminated. Luke Barnwell and his staff will be in full rebuild mode this offseason as they only expected returnees are 2024 John Bol and 2025 Mikel Brown Jr. Sunrise Christian sits at No. 18 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

19. Myers Park (NC)
Last Season Record: 28-4

One of the best public schools programs last season, Myers Park should be one of North Carolina’s elite programs coming into the 2023-2024 high school season. The Mustangs finished 28-4 overall last season while playing a national schedule and capturing the NCHSAA 4A state championship. Their big three of 2024 Bishop Boswell, 2025 Sadiq White Jr., and 2024 Sir Mohammed should headline next season’s roster. Myers Park sits at No. 19 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

20. Sidwell Friends (DC)
Last Season Record: 27-4

Sidwell Friends has become one of the best programs out of the DC area as they have only lost a combined six games in the last two seasons, which includes back-to-back DCSAA state championships. The Quakers should be one of the better teams next season as well as 2024 Caleb Williams and 2025 Jalen Rougier-Roan should headline their roster. Their2022-2023 season is not officially over yet as they are competing in the 2023 State Champions Invitational in their own backyard.

21. Harvard-Westlake (CA)
Last Season Record: 33-2

Harvard-Westlake has always been one California’s top basketball programs and it certainly showed why during the 2022-2023 season. The Wolverines were crowned the CIF Open Division state champions while finishing with an amazing 33-2 overall record on the national stage. Harvard-Westlake should definitely be one of the top teams coming into next season and especially as long as 2024 Trent Perry returns for this senior season. They currently sit at No. 21 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

22. Sierra Canyon (CA)
Last Season Record: 23-10
The Bronny James era at Sierra Canyon is officially over and the Trailblazers will look to move on from it. They finished 23-10 overall during the 2022-2023 high school season and should be in the mix as well coming into 2023-2024 as one of the best teams in the country. 2024 Isaiah Elohim, 2024 Noah Williams, 2024 Justin Pippen, and 2024 A.J. Swinton (VA Tech) should headline the key returnees for Sierra Canyon coming into next season as they sit at No. 22 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

23. Grayson (GA)
Last Season Record: 24-7
Grayson has been one of the Peach State’s top premiere teams over the last few seasons. The Rams finished 24-7 last season while making it to the GHSA 7A semifinals before being eliminated from the state playoffs. This group next season should be one of the country’s top public school teams once again led by 2024 Gicarri Harris. Grayson has a very nice group expected for the 2023-2024 high school season and could make another run at that state championship.

24. Archbishop Stepinac (NY)
Last Season Record: 22-10
Head coach Patrick Massaroni always seems to have a competitive group of guys every single season. The Crusaders finished 22-10 overall while playing a national schedule and winning the CHSAA “AA” city title. Stepinac also made it to the NYS Federation Tournament of Champions title game last season. They will be expected to have one of the top backcourts in the country next season with 2024 Boogie Fland and 2025 Danny Carbucccia as they sit at No. 24 in the way-too-early top-25 national rankings.

25. Dream City Christian (AZ)
Last Season Record: 33-5
Dream City Christian had another top tier season finishing 33-5 overall and at least making an appearance in the Grind Session World Championships title game. Head coach Kyle Weaver needs more recognition than he deserves running one of the better programs out West. The Eagles should be able to keep their name in the mix when it comes to the national top-25 preseason rankings. Dream City Christian sits at No. 25 and rounds out the way-too-early rankings.
