Bryson Jaye Nash announced recently he will be making his way to the Peach State for his senior season and attend McEachern (GA), out of Powder Springs right outside of Atlanta. I had a chance to speak with Nash in a recently regarding his recruitment and his next chapter.
He holds offers from Memphis, Alabama, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Illinois, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Missouri, and more as of today.
“Recruitment is going great. Recently I’ve been hearing from Ole Miss, Missouri, Mississippi State, Auburn, South Florida, Texas A&M, and a few others.” Jaye tells me. He does plan on adding a couple visits in to some of these schools.
“I haven’t had any visits yet this year. I visited Wake Forest, LSU, Memphis and Ole Miss last year. I’m in the process of scheduling visits now. Ole Miss and Missouri will probably be my first visits, but we haven’t nailed dates down just yet.” He continues to tell me.
The 6-foot-2 rising senior point guard is coming off an impressive junior campaign. He help lead Briarcrest (TN) to a 33-3 record last season and the Division II-AA state championship game. Nash also broke the career assists record of former Briarcrest and Memphis Grizzlies guard, Kennedy Chandler.
“It was an honor to be considered the best player in the state last year. I had a great coach and some really awesome teammates at Briarcrest. In all honesty, last year my only goal was to win the state championship. We went 33-3 last year, which is the most wins ever for the school, and actually made it to the state championship game. We lost and ended up state runner up so it’s bittersweet.” Nash says regarding his junior season with Briarcrest.
He also tells me he looks forward to also trying to secure the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year award and more. Nash was expected to attend powerhouse Oak Hill Academy (VA) before he decided to attend McEachern.
“I’m real excited about it. It was a tough decision to not go on to Oak Hill, but I think this will be great here (McEachern) and I made the right decision. Ace is my guy and we’ve been in the gym everyday. I like my coach a lot here too.” He says.
McEachern, a projected preseason top-25 national program, is expected to make a run at the GHSA class 7A state championship and while playing a national schedule. I asked Jaye what his expectations are with his new squad coming into his senior season?
“I want to win. That’s the main thing. I think we have a great group of guys and a really good team. I want to come in and be a good teammate and do what Coach wants me to do as the point guard. We have a lot of talent on the team already and obviously with Ace Bailey, who’s arguably the best player in the country, we can be good. I’m looking forward to the competition we’ll face with the national schedule and the opportunity to play against the best. I know it’s a strong tradition here at McEachern and I expect to do my part to keep that tradition going.” He says.
